Challenge

Ideas such as mental mapping, landmarks, scale, orientation and the relationship between inhabitants and the built environment can feel abstract in a lecture. The illustrations needed to turn them into immediate and memorable scenes.

Approach

I personified buildings and urban markers through expressive faces, gestures and simple interactions. Hand-drawn black lines keep the diagrams informal and approachable, while selective red, yellow, green and blue accents focus attention on the key idea in each composition.

Outcome

Six concise educational illustrations that give urban-perception concepts a friendly visual language and support clear discussion in lectures and presentations.
